Babia hora
Oravská Polhora
At 1,725 m, Babia hora is the highest peak of the Orava Beskids and also the northernmost significant peak in Slovakia, rising right on the border with Poland. The ascent passes through dwarf pine and alpine meadow zones up to a rocky summit, offering a panoramic view of the Tatras, Orava and the Polish side. The elevation gain and unpredictable weather make it a challenge for fitter hikers, but the panoramic reward is worth it. It's most commonly climbed from Oravská Polhora or Slaná voda, which serve as an excellent base for accommodation in the region.
