Skalka nad Váhom

Skalka near Trenčín is the oldest pilgrimage site in Slovakia, associated with the hermits Saint Andrew-Svorad and Benedict. On a rocky crag above the Váh stands the romantic ruin of the Benedictine monastery of Veľká Skalka, and below it the Baroque church of Malá Skalka. The site offers a peaceful spiritual atmosphere, views of the river and rich medieval history. It lies just a few kilometres from Trenčín, making it a pleasant excursion destination during a stay in the region.
