Kmeťov vodopád

Kmeťov vodopád is one of the notable waterfalls of the High Tatras, in the Poprad district. It was formed by glacial and tectonic action and is technically classified as a glacial, selective and tectonic waterfall — its water falls in two tiers, tumbling through a fissure over a pronounced rocky sill.

The waterfall is named after Andrej Kmeť, a prominent Slovak polymath and botanist. The naming underscores this site's connection to the Slovak natural-science tradition, making a visit to the falls a small tribute to one of the great figures of our history.

Kmeťov vodopád is among the destinations that must be reached on foot, along marked Tatra trails. The reward is not only the sight of the falling water in a wild high-mountain setting, but also the journey through one of the most beautiful mountain areas of Slovakia, surrounded by peaks, tarns and dwarf pine.
