Kráľova hoľa
Šumiac
Kráľova hoľa (1,946.1 m above sea level) is a prominent peak in the Low Tatras and the highest summit of their eastern section. It rises above the village of Šumiac, roughly 19 kilometres south of Svit, and has long been one of the symbols of the Slovak mountains.
Kráľova hoľa is steeped in legend and celebrated by poets — it appears in folklore as well as in works of Slovak literature, making it not just a natural but also a cultural phenomenon. Thanks to its imposing size and exceptional location, it is one of the most visited peaks in the whole of the Low Tatras.
The greatest reward for the climb is a unique 360-degree view. On a clear day you can see as far as Spiš, the High and Western Tatras, Liptov and the vast Horehronie region. The panorama from the bare summit is among the most beautiful in Slovakia and has its own charm in every season — from spring mornings to snow-covered winter ridges.
Several marked trails lead to the summit, so you can choose a route to match your fitness and available time. If you're looking for a quiet, authentic foothill setting, it's worth finding accommodation in Šumiac or the surrounding Horehronie villages. You'll have the climb to Kráľova hoľa right on your doorstep, plus a great base for exploring the Low Tatras and the whole Horehronie region.
