Kubínska hoľa (vrch)

Dolný Kubín

Kubínska hoľa (1,346.4 m above sea level) is a prominent mountain in the Orava Magura range, rising above the town of Dolný Kubín about 6 kilometres to the north. Thanks to its deforested, bare summit, it offers one of the finest all-round panoramas in the whole of Orava — which makes it one of the region's most popular hiking destinations.

The International Long-Distance Hiking Trail E3 passes through the area, making Kubínska hoľa a natural crossroads for hikers. On clear days the summit offers views of the Western Tatras and Roháče, the Choč Mountains, Malá Fatra and the broad Orava valleys. It's precisely these panoramic vistas that draw hikers, cyclists and photography lovers year-round.

Kubínska hoľa isn't just a summer destination. In the winter months its slopes turn into a well-known ski resort with runs of varying difficulty, suitable for families as well as more advanced skiers. Thanks to its elevation and open terrain, snow conditions here tend to last longer than at lower-lying resorts.

Its location right above Dolný Kubín is a big advantage — you can reach nature quickly, without a long journey. The town itself has a pleasant historic centre and is a good base for exploring all of Orava, from Orava Castle to the reservoir. If you're planning a longer stay, accommodation in Dolný Kubín or the nearby area gives you a comfortable base: a hike or a day of skiing on the mountain, an evening's rest in town, and another trip to Orava's sights the next day.
