Kvačianska dolina

Kvačany

Kvačianska dolina is a charming karst valley in the eastern part of the Chočské vrchy hills, through which the Kvačianka stream flows. The whole area is protected as a national nature reserve, testament to its exceptional natural value – you'll find rock walls, gorges, and rich vegetation here.

Marked hiking trails run through the valley: the red trail links the villages of Kvačany and Huty, while the blue trail starts at the junction above Oblazy heading toward Veľké Borové. This makes it a great destination both for families with children and for more experienced hikers wanting to discover Liptov's less-disturbed nature.

The valley's greatest treasures are two old wooden water mills at Oblazy, at the confluence of the Kvačianka, Borovianka, and Ráztocký streams. These are valuable technical monuments. The lower mill, together with its sawmill, has been restored and is functional, housing an exhibition of milling technology – visitors can see with their own eyes how the water-powered milling trade once worked.

Kvačianska dolina lies in the heart of Liptov, within sight of both the Chočské vrchy and the Western Tatras. A trip through the valley is ideal for anyone seeking a blend of nature and history. If you find accommodation in the surrounding Liptov villages, you can easily combine a walk through the valley with other trips around the region – from thermal pools to summit hikes.
