Lúčanský vodopád

Lúčanský vodopád is a unique national natural monument in the village of Lúčky in the Ružomberok district. The area was declared protected in 1974, safeguarding not only the waterfall itself but also the thick layer of travertine that has yielded valuable palaeontological and archaeological finds. It is a site of great scenic, natural and aesthetic value.

With a relative height of about 12 metres, the waterfall is truly exceptional in character. Unlike ordinary waterfalls, which plunge steeply over rock outcrops and gradually erode upstream, the opposite process takes place here. Intensive tufa formation divides the flow into steps that grow in the direction of the current, creating charming cascades. Meanwhile the water keeps finding new paths, so the waterfall's scenery is constantly, gradually changing.

It is precisely this "living," ever-growing travertine formation that makes Lúčanský vodopád a place of interest to nature lovers and geology enthusiasts alike. Located right within the village, it is easily accessible and suitable even for a short trip or stop while exploring the Liptov region.

The surroundings offer plenty of further attractions – from thermal pools to the Chočské vrchy mountains and the nearby Liptov area.
