Malý Rozsutec

Malý Rozsutec (1,343.4 m above sea level) is one of the most appealing peaks in the Malá Fatra mountains. It lies in the Krivánska section of the range, about 5 kilometers east of Terchová, in the heart of the picturesque land beneath Rozsutec inseparably linked to the legendary Juraj Jánošík.

Despite carrying the qualifier "malý" (small) in its name, Malý Rozsutec is a true gem of Malá Fatra National Park. Its distinctive rocky peak and steep slopes make it one of the most photographed summits in the region. Together with the neighboring Veľký Rozsutec, it forms a striking pair that completes the typical silhouette of the Terchová landscape.

The ascent of Malý Rozsutec is a popular, though at times demanding, hike leading through attractive terrain — hikers encounter rocky passages secured with chains and ladders, narrow gorges, and steep climbs. The reward at the top is a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding Malá Fatra peaks, valleys, and more distant ranges. It is precisely this combination of adventure and scenery that draws hikers throughout the season.

Terchová and its surroundings make an ideal starting point, with marked trails leading to the summit, often through charming valleys such as Diery, with its narrow gorges and waterfalls. If you want to fully immerse yourself in this corner of Malá Fatra, it's worth choosing accommodation right in Terchová or in nearby villages: set out on the hike early in the morning while the trails are still quiet, and enjoy the hospitable atmosphere of the Terchová region on your return. One day is certainly not enough for all the hikes here.
