Nitra Castle is the town's most important monument and one of the oldest centres of Christianity in Slovakia. Its core is the Cathedral of St Emmeram, blending Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles, surrounded by mighty fortifications and the bishop's palace. From the castle walls there is a magnificent view over the town and the surrounding Tribeč hills. Its location right in the centre of Nitra makes it an ideal base for a stay in the Ponitrie region.
