Televízna veža na Kamzíku
Bratislava
The television tower on Kamzík is Bratislava's tallest structure and the tallest tower in Slovakia. It rises on Kamzík hill in the Malé Karpaty (Little Carpathians), in the popular recreational area of Koliba, at an elevation of 433 m above sea level. The tower itself is 194 meters tall, putting its top at 635 m above sea level.
The foundation stone was laid in 1967 and construction was completed in 1975. It was designed by a team of architects and engineers – Stanislav Májek, Jakub Tomašák, D. Ferenčik and Juraj Kozák. The tower is a textbook example of architecture and engineering combined into one striking work. It was built during an era when similar tall landmarks were rising elsewhere in the former Czechoslovakia and around the world – think of the Ještěd transmitter near Liberec or the television towers in Berlin and Moscow, which became landmarks of their respective cities.
At a height of 70 meters, the tower houses the Veža restaurant and an observation deck offering views over the whole of Bratislava, the Danube, and the surrounding Malé Karpaty. The tower is one of the capital's symbols and an unmistakable landmark on its skyline.
Kamzík is also a popular excursion spot for Bratislava residents. The surroundings offer forest trails, cycling routes, and places to rest, so a visit to the tower can easily be combined with a walk in nature right above the city.
If you're exploring Bratislava, a trip to Kamzík is a pleasant break from the city program. During a stay in the capital, it's worth planning a visit to the lookout on a clear day – from the height of the Veža restaurant you'll enjoy one of the finest views of Bratislava and its surroundings.
