Zámok Vígľaš

Vígľaš Castle was founded in the 13th century as a royal hunting castle and underwent both gothic and renaissance rebuilding over the centuries. After burning down during World War II and lying derelict for decades, it was expensively restored and now houses a luxury hotel with a wellness centre and an exhibition on the castle's history. It stands on a hill above the village of Vígľaš in the picturesque Podpoľanie region east of Zvolen. Its location makes it a pleasant excursion destination as well as a base for a stay beneath Mt. Poľana.
