Adršpach
The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks National Nature Reserve was declared as early as 1933, covering 1,771 hectares, to protect the well-preserved rock city formations. It spreads across the Náchod and Trutnov districts and, since 1 June 2015, has been managed by the East Bohemia regional office of the Nature and Landscape Protection Agency of the Czech Republic. It is the largest rock city in Central Europe.
The rock city was formed by long-term weathering of massive sandstone layers, from which nature carved a labyrinth of towers, walls, gates and deep gorges. It is precisely the size and complexity of the area that make it an exceptional natural formation — visitors move through narrow passages between vertical rock walls that in places tower far above head height. The reserve's protected status ensures that this fragile ecosystem and its striking rock formations remain preserved for future generations.
Marked hiking trails cross the area, guiding visitors through the most impressive corners of the rock city and revealing its shifting moods. The division into the Adršpach and Teplice sections offers different routes and experiences, so families and more experienced hikers alike will find something to suit them. The cool, shady gorges and steep walls create an environment that is hard to find anywhere else in Central Europe.
The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks are among the region's most sought-after natural destinations and pair well with exploring the nearby Broumov Walls and other rock formations. If you plan your stay in the area with lodging nearby, you'll have time to walk through both rock sections at leisure, set out early in the morning while the trails are still quiet, and fully take in the silence and grandeur of Central Europe's largest rock city.
