Špania Dolina
Špania Dolina
Špania Dolina is a charming mountain mining village tucked into a valley north of Banská Bystrica, which in the 16th century was one of Europe's most important copper-mining centres. Today it is a heritage reservation with preserved miners' cottages, a church, a wooden bell-board (klopačka) and technical monuments. Visitors are drawn by its unique atmosphere, an educational mining trail, and views of the surrounding mountains. For trips along the Hron valley and the Low Tatras, it is a great base with accommodation nearby.
