Beckov (hrad)

Beckov Castle is one of the most photogenic ruins in western Slovakia. It rises on a steep crag roughly 60 metres high directly above the village of Beckov, and its silhouette is clearly visible from afar – even from the D1 motorway itself.

The site was historically also called Beckov Castle, appearing in old sources under the original names Blundus or Bolondos. Its position on an inaccessible crag made it a naturally protected stronghold guarding the surrounding land and the road along the Váh valley.

The climb to the castle rewards visitors with views of the village of Beckov, the surrounding valley and the broad landscape of the Považie region. The ruin's silhouette on the crag is a rewarding subject for photographers in any weather.

Beckov lies between Trenčín and Nové Mesto nad Váhom, so it pairs beautifully with other attractions in the Považie region. Accommodation in the area makes Beckov a comfortable stop on a journey through history and medieval atmosphere.
