Čertov

Lazy pod Makytou

Čertov is a mountain settlement belonging to the village of Lazy pod Makytou in the Púchov district and today ranks among the popular recreational and skiing spots in this part of Slovakia. It lies in the Javorníky mountains below the main ridge, right beneath the 868-metre peak of Malý Javorník, in the headwater area of the Biela voda stream. The territory forms part of the Kysuce Protected Landscape Area, indicating a corner of valuable, protected nature.

While it was once mainly a modest mountain settlement, Čertov today is above all a recreational area. Cottages and ski lifts have sprung up here, turning the place into a resort where people come for peace, clean air, and mountain scenery. The surroundings of the settlement also fall within a site of European importance, so it retains its natural character even as tourism develops.

In winter, Čertov draws skiers who appreciate the slopes and lifts set right in the mountain environment of the Javorníky. In warmer months, the location becomes a hiking base — the main ridge, the Malý Javorník peak, and the surrounding forests offer plenty of trails and viewpoints. Thanks to its position in a headwater area within a protected landscape area, it's a place made for nature lovers and quiet holidays away from the crowds.

Čertov lies on the border of the Púchov valley and the Kysuce region, so it combines beautifully with exploring the wider area. Accommodation right in the settlement or in nearby villages makes it a comfortable base for both winter and summer mountain holidays. If you're looking for a quiet mountain resort with skiing in winter and hiking in summer, Čertov is a rewarding choice for families and groups of friends.
