Červenohorské sedlo

Červenohorské sedlo is a mountain pass in the Hrubý Jeseník range, situated on the historic Moravian-Silesian border at an altitude of 1,013 metres. The important I/44 road runs through it, and a popular ski resort sits right at the pass. Administratively it belongs to the village of Loučná nad Desnou.

The resort is one of the major downhill skiing centres on the border between Moravia and Silesia. It offers seven lifts and four slopes at altitudes from 862 to 1,164 metres, split between steeper northern runs and gentler southern ones. Thanks to its location, snow conditions here are usually excellent, and the winter season typically runs from mid-December to the end of March, longer in favourable weather. The pass lies about eight kilometres north of Kouty nad Desnou, from where a shuttle service runs up to the ridge.

Červenohorské sedlo is also a great gateway for cross-country skiers and hikers. A groomed cross-country trail leads from here via Petrovka and the Švýcárna chalet all the way to Praděd, while another heads to the former Vřesová studánka chalet and over Červená hora to Keprník and Šerák. As early as the mid-19th century a wayside inn stood here — today a hotel stands at the pass, with the old provincial border even running through it.

Thanks to its central location in the Jeseníky Mountains, Červenohorské sedlo is an ideal base for both winter and summer mountain trips. From accommodation around Loučná nad Desnou or Kouty nad Desnou you'll have slopes, cross-country trails and more demanding ridge hikes to the highest peak, Praděd, all within easy reach.
