Čičmany in the Rajec Valley is world-famous for its log houses painted with white geometric ornaments resembling lace or frost patterns. The village has been a folk-architecture heritage reserve since 1977, and its motifs have become a symbol of Slovak folklore. Visitors can view Radeno's House and the Museum of Čičmany Folk Costume and soak up the atmosphere of the fairy-tale village beneath the Strážovské vrchy hills. Combined with nearby Rajecká Lesná and the spa town of Rajecké Teplice, it makes an ideal family day trip.
