Giewont

Giewont (1,895 m) is perhaps the most famous peak above Zakopane, its silhouette resembling a reclining figure and serving as a symbol of the Polish Tatras. Since 1901, a massive iron cross almost 18 metres tall has stood at its summit, reached by marked trails secured with chains. The climb rewards hikers with a panoramic view of Zakopane and the surrounding valleys. The town at the foot of the mountain, thanks to its dense network of trails, is an excellent base for mountain hiking and comfortable accommodation.
