Gýmeš Castle is an impressive medieval ruin standing on the limestone crag of Dúň above the village of Jelenec. It was built in the 13th century and belonged to the noble Forgách family for centuries; today it is being gradually restored by a civic association. An easy climb through the forest rewards visitors with mighty walls and views of the surrounding area. It is a popular hiking destination near Nitra.
