Likava Castle is an impressive ruin perched on a rocky outcrop above the village of Likavka near Ružomberok. It was built in the 13th century to guard the important route into Liptov and later became the seat of powerful noble families and a stronghold for rebels. Today its restored walls, courtyards and cellars are open to visitors, with a magnificent view over the Liptov Basin and the Chočské vrchy. Thanks to its location above Ružomberok, it's a popular and easy trip for visitors staying nearby.
