Slanec Castle is a 13th-century gothic castle ruin perched on a striking volcanic hill directly above the village of Slanec. The original castle's massive round tower has survived and is now restored, serving as a lookout with a panorama of the Slanské vrchy hills and the Košice Basin. The short but steep climb through the forest is rewarded with wide views over the surrounding countryside. Located east of Košice, the castle is a popular half-day excursion from accommodation in the region.
