Jasovská jaskyňa

Jasov

Jasovská jaskyňa is a richly decorated stalactite cave in the Slovak Karst National Park, opened to the public as early as 1846 — the very first cave in Slovakia to be made accessible. Visitors follow a circuit past pagoda-shaped stalactites, small pools and a famous medieval Hussite inscription from 1452 carved into the cave wall. Several bat species live here, and the cave is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The village of Jasov, with its baroque monastery, lies west of Košice and makes an excellent base for a stay in the region.
