Jánska dolina
Liptovský Ján
Jánska dolina is a roughly 15-kilometre-long valley on the northern side of the Low Tatras. The Štiavnica stream flows through it, and the upper part of the valley shares its name. It's one of the most beautiful and most visited valleys in this part of the mountains and a popular destination for hikers year-round.
A blue-marked hiking trail runs the entire length of the valley, leading from the village of Liptovský Ján all the way to the main Low Tatras ridge and the M. R. Štefánik Chalet at Ďumbier Saddle. It's a classic, sought-after route that lets you climb into the highest reaches of the Low Tatras and be rewarded with a panorama of the ridges.
The valley enchants with wild nature, rock walls, forests and clear mountain streams. It's a haven for hikers seeking quiet, fresh air and views. The route offers various levels of difficulty — from easy walks through the lower part of the valley to a more demanding ascent to the ridge for experienced hikers. Everyone can find a route to suit their strength and taste.
The starting point is the village of Liptovský Ján, also known for its thermal springs and hospitality — an ideal place to rest after a full day's hike in the mountains. To make the most of Jánska dolina and the surrounding peaks, it's worth choosing accommodation right in Liptovský Ján or nearby, keeping the Low Tatras' nature and relaxation options comfortably within reach.
