Kaplica Czaszek (Czermna)
Kudowa-Zdrój
The Skull Chapel in the district of Czermna is a small Baroque shrine whose walls and vault are covered with around three thousand human skulls and bones, with tens of thousands more resting in the crypt beneath. The skeletal remains come from victims of the Silesian Wars and plague epidemics of the 17th and 18th centuries. It is one of the few surviving ossuaries of this kind in Europe and a chillingly powerful, unforgettable experience. Kudowa-Zdrój and the surrounding villages of the Kłodzko Valley make an ideal base for exploring this monument as well as the nearby Table Mountains.
