Wieliczka Salt Mine near Kraków is one of the oldest and most famous salt mines in the world and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tourist route leads dozens of metres underground through a labyrinth of corridors, lakes and chambers carved directly out of salt. The greatest treasure is the underground Chapel of St Kinga, with salt chandeliers and reliefs. Its proximity to Kraków makes Wieliczka an ideal excursion destination with convenient accommodation nearby.
