Lietavský hrad

Lietava Castle is a massive Gothic-Renaissance ruin on a rocky ridge near Žilina and, by built-up area, ranks among the largest castles in Slovakia. Its sprawling courtyards, towers and palaces are gradually being restored by volunteers, and the castle is freely accessible. From the walls there's a wide view over the Rajec Valley and the surrounding hills. Thanks to its proximity to Žilina, it's a popular trip during a stay in the Malá Fatra region.
