Šariš Castle is one of the most extensive medieval castles in Slovakia, its sprawling ruins crowning a cone-shaped andesite hill above Veľký Šariš. Massive walls, bastions and the foundations of a palace survive from the former stronghold, which once guarded the Torysa valley. The climb is rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view of Prešov and the Šariš basin. The castle lies just a few kilometres from Prešov, making it an ideal half-day trip from accommodation in the area.
