Slnečné jazerá

Slnečné jazerá, also known as the Senec Lakes, is a popular destination in the town of Senec, spread around a large artificial lake. It's one of the best-known summer bathing spots in south-western Slovakia, and in the hot months crowds flock here for swimming, relaxation and fun.

The lakes date back to 1845, when gravel was dredged here for the construction of the Bratislava–Galanta railway. Originally there were five separate lakes, later merged into one. The area began being used as a natural bathing spot as early as 1919, back then called Slovak Tahiti, and it received its current name, Slnečné jazerá (Sunny Lakes), in 1960. Today the lake covers over 100 hectares and reaches depths of up to 12 metres. The 1958 film Šťastie príde v nedeľu was also filmed here.

The complex is divided into North and South sections and offers plenty to do. You'll find swimming, water sports and fishing opportunities, children's playgrounds, beach volleyball courts, tennis courts, boat and pedal-boat rentals, water slides, an artificial-turf football pitch, water football, and on the northern side, an aquapark. In short, neither children nor adults will get bored here.

The grounds host numerous hotels, guesthouses, larger cottages, cabins and tourist-class facilities, making Slnečné jazerá ideal for a multi-day summer holiday. Thanks to its proximity to Bratislava, it's also easy to visit for just a day – but staying overnight nearby lets you fully enjoy the whole complex and its summer atmosphere.
