Smolenice

Smolenice Castle is a romantic early-20th-century building erected by the Pálffy family on the site of an older castle, in the style of French châteaux. It is dominated by a tall square tower, a courtyard, and a landscaped park on the eastern slope of the Malé Karpaty. Today it serves as a congress center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, with part of the château open for tours. Its proximity to Driny Cave and forest trails makes Smolenice a popular base for excursions.
