Wielki Staw
Karpacz
Wielki Staw is the largest glacial lake in the Polish Karkonosze, tucked into a massive cirque at an altitude of over 1,200 metres. Its crystal-clear water reaches a depth of almost 25 metres and stays ice-cold even in summer. Dwarf mountain pine and rare mountain plants grow along its shores, and the surface can be admired from the ridge trail. The hike to the lake is one of the most popular excursions from Karpacz, classically combined with the ascent of Śnieżka.
