Železná studnička

Železná studnička is one of Bratislava's best-known suburban recreation spots. It lies in the Bratislava Forest Park at the end of Mlynská dolina valley, within the Nové Mesto district. It's a popular place to rest, walk and escape the city bustle almost within reach of the centre – greenery, water and forest paths create a pleasant contrast to the busy city.

It got its name from the iron-rich water that once sprang here – this gave the site both its character and its name, which was also used in German (Eisenbrünnl) and Hungarian (Vaskutacska) forms. Although the heyday of Železná studnička is long past, its history left an indelible mark on the social life of old Bratislava, and a certain nostalgic atmosphere still lingers here.

Today people come mainly for nature, peaceful walks along the water and the starting points of hiking trails leading from here into the surrounding forests of the Malé Karpaty. It's a rewarding destination for families with children, runners and cyclists alike, and a pleasant place to relax in any season – from spring blossoms to colourful autumn. Its short distance from the centre also makes it an ideal spot for an afternoon break.
