Špilberk is the dominant castle on the hill above Brno's city centre, which over the centuries served as a royal residence, a feared Baroque fortress and the infamous 'prison of nations'. Today it houses the Brno City Museum, with exhibitions on the city's history, dark casemates and a lookout tower.
