Hvězdárna a planetárium Brno
Brno
The Brno Observatory and Planetarium is a contributory organisation of the statutory city of Brno, and its history dates back to the 1950s. It is a cultural-educational institution combining an observatory and a planetarium – these were put into operation in 1954 and have been bringing the universe closer to the general public ever since.
It is located on a site in the middle of a park on Kraví hora hill in the northwest of the Brno-střed district, at an altitude of 305 metres. The top of the planetarium's dome stands at 318 metres above sea level and is the highest point within a radius of several kilometres – which also gives the site an exceptional position for observing the sky above the city. The observatory's international code is 616.
A visit to the observatory and planetarium is an ideal blend of fun and learning. As a cultural-educational institution, it offers a space where both children and adults can learn more about stars, planets and the workings of the universe. Its location in a green park on Kraví hora also makes the visit a pleasant outing that can be combined with a walk and relaxation right in the centre of Brno.
Brno is a lively city with a rich offer of landmarks, culture and gastronomy, so the observatory and planetarium is just one of many stops. If you choose accommodation in the city itself or its close surroundings, you can plan your visit for the evening, for example, and combine it with discovering further Brno attractions during the day. A stay in Brno thus gains an extra dimension – from history and city bustle to a peaceful view of the night sky.
