Klínovec
Jáchymov
At 1,244 metres above sea level, Klínovec is the highest peak of the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory), and also the highest point of the Karlovy Vary and Chomutov districts as well as the entire Karlovy Vary and Ústí nad Labem regions. It ranks among the four most prominent mountains in the Czech Republic, making it a striking landmark for the whole of northwestern Bohemia.
On the summit plateau stands an 80-metre concrete telecommunications tower along with a hotel featuring an observation deck, among the oldest and highest-situated buildings in the Ore Mountains. A cable car, Jáchymov–Klínovec, runs to the summit from the south, and another lift, Dámská, from the north, making the mountain conveniently accessible even to visitors who don't want to hike the whole way up.
The main draw in winter is the Klínovec ski resort — the largest ski area in the Ore Mountains. It offers terrain for both skiers and snowboarders and, thanks to its position on the range's highest peak, is one of the most reliable resorts in the area. In the warmer months the mountain becomes a destination for hikers and day-trippers seeking views and mountain scenery.
Klínovec is an ideal target for a long weekend, whether you come to ski in winter or hike in summer. If you want to spend more time on the slopes and trails, it's worth choosing accommodation right in Jáchymov or the surrounding Ore Mountains — from a quiet base you'll have the cable car and pistes conveniently close by, letting you enjoy your mountain stay without unnecessary commuting.
