Lookout tower · Karlovarsko
Klínovec
Jáchymov
The lookout tower on Klínovec stands on the summit of the highest mountain in the Krušné hory (Ore Mountains), which at 1,244 metres above sea level is the highest point of the Karlovy Vary and Chomutov districts and of the entire Karlovy Vary and Ústí nad Labem regions. Klínovec is one of the four most prominent peaks in the Czech Republic, so the view from its summit stretches far across the surrounding landscape.
The tower is 24 metres tall and forms part of a hotel on the summit plateau; after renovation it was reopened to visitors. Together with the hotel, it is among the oldest and highest-situated buildings in the Krušné hory, giving it both historical and panoramic value. Nearby stands an 80-metre-tall concrete telecommunications tower, a striking landmark of the summit.
Klínovec is easily reached by cable car — from the south the Jáchymov–Klínovec cableway operates, and from the north the Dámská cable car. This makes the lookout accessible to families with children and to visitors who don't want to hike the whole way up. The tower's gallery offers a 360-degree view of the Krušné hory ridges and the wider surroundings.
A climb up the tower can be combined with hiking in the area and a visit to the Klínovec ski resort, the largest in the range in winter. To get to know the region more thoroughly, it's worth staying right in Jáchymov or elsewhere in the Krušné hory — from a peaceful base, the cable car, the viewpoint and the trails will be within easy reach throughout your stay.
