Krásnohorská jaskyňa

Krásnohorská Cave is a resurgence-type fluviokarst cave and one of the most adventurous show caves in Slovakia. It lies within the cadastral territory of Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka in the Rožňava district of the Košice region and is protected as a national natural monument. A visit here is not an ordinary tour but a genuine experience.

It was discovered by cavers from Rožňava in 1964, after the water level of the Buzgó spring dropped. The known length of the cave is 1,556 metres, and its greatest pride is the Stalagmite of the Rožňava Cavers — at nearly 33 metres tall, one of the largest stalagmites in the world. It is the main goal of every tour.

The tour is unlike a classic cave visit. The route leads to the giant stalagmite, runs 450 metres, and you return the same way. Before entering you put on caving gear, cross the streambed on wooden footbridges and the lakes on rope crossings. The cave is unlit, so the visit feels more like a speleological expedition than a standard tour — which is exactly why it's more demanding, though children from age six can manage it.

The cave is open year-round except in March and lies in the picturesque setting of the Slovak Karst near Rožňava. It's an ideal destination for families and adventurers seeking an unusual experience off the beaten path.
