Plavecký hrad

Plavecký hrad is a picturesque castle ruin rising above the village of Plavecké Podhradie. It stands on Pohanská hill at the western foot of the Malé Karpaty mountains and, even from a distance, looks like a classic romantic ruin towering over the landscape. It's one of the popular excursion destinations in this part of western Slovakia.

The castle has historically also been known under other names – as Detrekov kameň after its original owner, but you'll also come across the name hrad Plavec. Interestingly, it sits directly within the Pohanská national nature reserve, meaning a visit to the ruin naturally combines with time spent in a protected and exceptionally valuable natural setting.

The climb to the castle rewards you twice over. The path leads through the forests of the Malé Karpaty, and from the castle hill you get views over the surrounding foothill landscape.
