Plejsy

Plejsy is a ski resort in eastern Slovakia, located near the town of Krompachy. It offered seven tow lifts and one chairlift, making it a popular destination for skiers in this part of the Spiš region. Right by the slope stands Hotel Plejsy, which in addition to accommodation once offered a bowling alley, sauna, swimming pool, restaurant and other facilities.

The resort has a surprisingly rich sporting history. It was once approved as the official ski resort for the Slovak national team's Olympic preparation, and the International Ski Federation (FIS) homologated courses here for slalom, giant slalom and super-giant slalom. Plejsy consequently hosted several editions of the FIS Europa Cup – a remarkable legacy for a resort of regional scale.

This racing history still makes Plejsy an interesting spot on the map of Slovak skiing today. Its location above Krompachy, in the rugged terrain of the Spiš region, provided good conditions both for downhill disciplines and for ordinary recreational skiers seeking a quieter alternative to the large Tatra resorts.

It's important to know, however, that the resort's operation hasn't been a given in recent years – the complex, including the hotel, has even been offered for sale, and in one recent season the lifts didn't run at all. If you're planning to visit Plejsy, check the current operating status before setting off. Accommodation around Krompachy and the Spiš region is still a good base for exploring this area, which offers plenty of natural and historical attractions regardless of the season.
