Rotunda svätého Juraja (Nitrianska Blatnica)

St George's Rotunda, also known as Rotunda Jurko or St George's Chapel, is a Roman Catholic chapel standing north of the village of Nitrianska Blatnica. Tucked away in quiet surroundings above the village, it ranks among the most precious historical monuments in this part of Slovakia.

Its exact dating isn't entirely certain, but recent research most often places it in the 9th to 10th century. This makes it one of the oldest surviving sacred buildings in Slovakia and one of the oldest rotundas in the country. Whether it might even be the oldest standing church in Slovakia remains a matter of scholarly debate.

Visiting the rotunda combines a peaceful nature walk with a touch of the earliest chapters of our history. The building is easily reached on foot.
