Sychrov (zámek)
Sychrov
Sychrov Chateau lies in the village of the same name in the Liberec region, 16 km south of Liberec and 6 km northwest of Turnov. It is a state-owned chateau open to the public since 1950, administered by the National Heritage Institute. The complex is a unique example of a neo-Gothic noble residence from the second half of the 19th century.
The neo-Gothic style gives Sychrov its characteristic romantic character — with turrets, battlements and delicate stone-carved decoration that in the 19th century evoked an idealized vision of the Middle Ages. It is precisely the coherence of this look that makes the chateau exceptional: it did not remain a mere facade but retained its richly appointed interiors. In addition to the chateau building itself, with its original furnishings, the grounds include an extensive chateau park that adds greenery and quiet corners to the estate.
A tour of the originally furnished interiors offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of the nobility at the end of the 19th century, while the park invites a relaxing stroll afterward. Since 1995 Sychrov has been a National Cultural Monument, confirming its exceptional value among Czech chateaux. Its location between Liberec and Turnov makes it easy to reach from several directions.
Sychrov combines wonderfully with exploring the nearby Bohemian Paradise, Turnov and the city of Liberec. Thanks to its striking interior and expansive park, it appeals to both families and history lovers. If you plan your stay in the area with lodging nearby, you can devote one day to the chateau and its park and another to the rock cities and castles of the Bohemian Paradise — at an unhurried pace, taking in the romantic atmosphere of this neo-Gothic seat.
