Veľká homoľa

Modra

Veľká homoľa is a hill 709.2 metres above sea level, located in the Malé Karpaty mountains. It rises above the town of Modra, about four kilometres northwest of its centre, and is one of the popular viewpoints along the Malé Karpaty ridge. Thanks to its accessibility and pleasant forest surroundings, it's a rewarding destination for hikers and families with children alike.

An observation tower stands on the summit, making Veľká homoľa one of the most visited viewpoint hills in the area. In good weather it offers lovely views across the wider surroundings – the foothills, the neighbouring hills of the Malé Karpaty, and the landscape towards the lowlands. The view itself is usually the main reward for the climb and the draw that keeps bringing visitors back.

The route to the top follows marked trails from Modra and the surrounding villages, mostly through forest, making the ascent pleasant even on warmer days. The hike is easy and manageable for an average hiker, which makes Veľká homoľa ideal for a half-day trip year-round – shady forest in summer, colourful foliage in autumn, and a quiet walk in winter.

Veľká homoľa pairs excellently with exploring Modra and the whole Malokarpatský region, known for its winemaking tradition. If you'd like to combine a trip to the tower with tasting local wines and exploring the area, it's worth choosing accommodation in Modra or nearby villages and turning it into a pleasant weekend stay.
