Boží Dar – Novako

Boží Dar lies in the Ore Mountains in the west of the Czech Republic, in the Karlovy Vary district, right on the border with the German state of Saxony, where the Boží Dar–Oberwiesenthal border crossing operates. At an altitude of around 1,020 metres, it is the highest-situated town in the entire Czech Republic, and with a population of about 255 it is also one of its smallest.

The town began as a mining settlement known for its silver and tin extraction. After mining declined, its location in the central Ore Mountains helped turn it into a popular recreation resort focused on winter sports, summer hiking and cycling. The ski slopes in the surrounding area, including the Novako resort right in the village, are popular destinations for families and cross-country skiers making use of a dense network of maintained trails.

Mountain lovers in particular will appreciate Boží Dar's location: rising directly nearby are the highest peaks of the Ore Mountains — Klínovec (1,244 m) and Božídarský Špičák (1,116 m) — and just across the border stands Saxony's highest mountain, Fichtelberg (1,214 m). Thanks to the altitude, snow stays here well into the season, making the area a reliable destination for skiing.

In summer the landscape opens up to hikers and cyclists — peat bogs, nature trails and views into both the Czech and Saxon interior are all within easy reach. Boží Dar is thus an ideal spot for a year-round mountain stay. Choosing accommodation right in the village or nearby puts pistes, cross-country trails and hiking paths literally on your doorstep and saves you time on daily commuting.
