Čertovo jezero

Železná Ruda

Čertovo jezero (Devil's Lake) is a glacial lake on the southern slope of Jezerní hora at an elevation of about 1030 metres, forming a nature reserve together with the nearby Černé jezero (Black Lake). Its dark surface, ringed by steep slopes and forest, is steeped in devil legends that gave the lake its name. It's the only Šumava lake that drains towards the Danube. The lake is reached via marked trails from Špičák and Železná Ruda, a popular base for both summer and winter stays.
