Hrad Kašperk
Kašperské Hory
The Gothic castle of Kašperk was founded in 1356 by the Bohemian king and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV to protect trade routes and gold mines. At an elevation of 886 metres, it's the highest-situated royal castle in Bohemia, and its two mighty towers dominate the surrounding forests. Visitors can walk the tour routes and climb the tower for views over the Šumava hills. The castle stands just a few kilometres from Kašperské Hory, a good base for trips around central Šumava.
