Vodopád v Bílé strži
Hamry
The waterfall in Bílá strž is the highest waterfall on the Czech side of Šumava. It lies on the middle course of the Bílý potok stream at an altitude of 940 meters, on the northeastern slopes of Královský hvozd, about 4 km southwest of Hojsova Stráž. It lies within the cadastral area of Hamry na Šumavě, with its upper end also reaching into the Hojsova Stráž cadastral area.
The waterfall is hidden in a deep forest gorge that the water has carved into the steep slope of Královský hvozd. Its status — the highest on the Czech side of the range — makes it a sought-after natural destination. The Bílý potok stream overcomes a significant drop in height here, creating an impressive scene in the shady, damp gorge that feels wild and untouched. The gorge's cool microclimate gives the place a distinctive atmosphere that shifts with the water level and the season.
A forest hiking trail leads to the waterfall, conveying a taste of the wild charm of the Šumava wilderness. The path through steep, wooded terrain is an experience in itself, rewarded with a view of the highest Czech waterfall in Šumava. The surrounding landscape of Královský hvozd is one of the quieter, less crowded corners of Šumava, so the spot will especially appeal to those seeking nature and quiet.
The waterfall in Bílá strž combines well with exploring the surrounding Šumava ridges and trails. As a destination it is ideal for nature lovers and those seeking peaceful hikes away from the crowds. If you plan your stay in the area with lodging nearby, you'll have time to head to the waterfall unencumbered, enjoy the atmosphere of the wild gorge, and combine it with further walks through the quiet landscape of Královský hvozd.
