Zadov – Churáňov

Zadov, together with the higher-lying hamlet of Churáňov, forms a well-known ski resort in the Šumava Mountains. Administratively it belongs to the municipality of Stachy in the Prachatice district, lying about five kilometres southwest of Stachy and around thirty kilometres west of Prachatice.

The mountain settlement spreads across alpine meadows on the northeastern edge of the Kvilda Plains, on the eastern slope of Churáňovský vrch (1120 m). The buildings stretch at an altitude of roughly 880 to 1070 metres above the valley of the Spůlka stream, with the highest-situated houses forming the hamlet of Churáňov itself. Thanks to this high position, Zadov is one of the most snow-reliable spots in the Czech part of the Šumava.

In winter you'll find downhill slopes here as well as a connection to the extensive cross-country trails of the Kvilda Plains, among the most beautiful in the whole range. When the snow melts, the surrounding meadows and forests turn into a paradise for hiking and cycling, with open views over the Šumava landscape and fresh mountain air.

Its location on the edge of the Kvilda Plains makes Zadov an excellent base for exploring central Šumava — Kvilda, Modrava and other corners of the national park are all within easy reach. If you're planning skiing or summer rambles along the ridges, staying right in Zadov or Churáňov puts the mountains literally outside your window and saves you daily travel.
